January 13 – Drive to Esperance

After being closed for over a week the roads south are open so we were able to make our drive down to our next stop in Esperance, right on the Indian Ocean.  It was a fairly long and lonely drive.  There were a few towns along the way but mostly were really just a “wide spot” in the road.

One section of the road took us over a dry lake bed.

We did drive through an area which had obviously been hit by the recent fires.  The fire damage was right up next to the road. 

When we arrived in Esperance it was really quite cool…almost cold.  Hopefully the next few days will give us good touring weather.
