through the very tiny town of Menzies...
to Lake Ballard. It is a very large dry salt lake bed.
There were heavy rains here a few days before. Because of the heat and the permeability of soil there was no standing water in the lake. However, parts of the walk were just a bit damp. Mary saw some kangaroo tracks heading off across the dry lake bed. But no live kangaroos.
The main attraction here was the art installation called "Inside
Australia". It consists of 51 sculptures
by Antony Gormley, all derived from laser scans of residents of the nearby town
of Menzies. Apparently the honing of the scans lead to the uncovering of the "insides" of the residents....hence the name "Inside Australia". (Do have a bit of a problem comprehending some of these art names.)
It was hot and the sculptures were long distances apart so we only
stopped by a few.
This evening we decided to go down to the Palace Hotel for dinner on
the balcony overlooking the main street.
It was pricy but pretty good. We had good views of the main street while sitting on the balcony.
and the hotel was interesting.
It was built in 1897 so was very vintage.
We had a nice sunset.
