January 11 – Museum of the Goldfields and an Art Walk

Another museum about the goldfields and mining. 

At the entrance to the museum was a giant Christmas tree made of miner's helmets.  A bit different.

There was a interesting video about the construction of the water pipeline that enabled people to live in this very dry area, a lot of mining information and a lot about life during the gold rush days.

The museum was in an old hotel so one of the rooms was a hotel sitting room.

There was a room displaying union banners.

And there was a great outdoor area with several buildings including early housing.

and a paddy wagon.  

After lunch we took a walk around town enjoying the Victorian Architecture.

We had found a brochure on an art walk so we decided to seek out some of the work listed in the brochure.  While most of it was wall murals the style and subject matter was extremely varied and interesting.
